How to compare your income and spending over six months

Seeing money in right next to money out is the fastest way to feel where you stand.

1. Open the Analytics page.
2. Find the Income vs Expense chart.
3. Read the gold bars as your income and the brown bars as your spending.
4. Hover over any month to see the exact amounts.

How to see where this month's money went

When you want to know what ate your budget, your categories tell the story.

1. Open the Analytics page.
2. Look at the This month by category donut to see each category's share at a glance.
3. Hover over any slice to see its amount.
4. Scroll down to the Top Categories list for the same spending ranked, each with a percentage and dollar amount.

How to understand what changed since last month

This is one of Misto's kindest features: plain-language notes on what moved, with no math homework.

1. Open the Analytics page.
2. Find the What shifted trends.
3. Read Misto's sentence for each category, next to this month's amount and last month's total.
4. Notice the color: amber means a category went up, green means it came down.

💡 Tip: The What shifted notes also appear on your Dashboard, so you can catch changes without opening Analytics.

Frequently Asked Questions

"Why do my charts look empty?"

They simply haven't been fed yet. With no transactions recorded, the Income vs Expense and This month by category charts show empty, and the Top Categories list reads "No data this month." Add or import a few transactions and everything fills in on its own.

"Why don't I see the 'What shifted' trends yet?"

Misto needs two months of spending before it can compare them. Until then you'll see the note "Once you have two months of spending, I'll spot what shifted." Give it another month and the trends appear automatically.

"A category is highlighted in amber — is that a warning?"

Not at all. Amber just means you spent more there than last month, and green means less. Misto deliberately never uses alarm red here — it's simply information, not a scolding.

"What does the tax filing history on this page show?"

It's a year-over-year look at your deductions — last year versus this year, with a category comparison. It's the very same view you'll find on your Tax Vault page, so you can glance at it from either place.
